Jewellery among four shops robbed at Rapa Plaza

At least four shops at Rapa Plaza in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area were robbed early Sunday by some people intruding there wearing masks.

Among the shops, one was a jewellery shop. The traders there alleged that 500 tola gold ornaments were looted.

The others were clothing shops on the ground floor, said Robiul Azad, a sub-inspector at Dhanomndi police station.

Rajlaxmi Jewellers was looted in the ground floor. The shop owner is Mohadeb Karmakar. His relative Amit Saha said that the shop was locked at about 8:30pm Saturday last.

CCTV footages of the market showed that three-four people, wearing masks, entered the shops and ransacked everything and looted there.

Amit said that primarily they found 500 tola of gold ornament were looted.

Traders said that the looters entered the market after breaking the lock of the toilet at about 3:00am.

Duty officer of Dhanmondi police station sub-inspector Jahangir Alam said that police were analysing CCTV footage and interrogating security guards.
