AL leader beaten to death by rivals in Chattogram

A leader of ruling Bangladesh Awami League died at a Chattogram hospital on Thursday hours after he was beaten allegedly by the members of a rival group at Khagoria area of Satkania upazila in the district.

The deceased was identified as Md Belal Uddin, 48, son of Ahmed Kabir, hailed from Taiyarpara area of Khagoria of Satkania, officials said.

Md Belal Uddin was the general secretary of ward no.4 Awami League under Satkania upazila, Md Abu Taher, president of Khagoria union Awami League.

He was beaten by rival group members Delwar, Sadeq, Alim, Khokhon, Shahjahan, Jahed at about 9:00 pm on Wednesday over the previous enmity, Md Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Satkania police station, told New Age.

Belal was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead at about 3:00 am on Thursday, assistant sub-inspector Mohammad Alauddin Talukder of CMCH police outpost told New age.

Alleged accused Jahed was detained after the incident and he was being interrogated, said OC Anwar Hossain.

'We are trying to detain the other accused,' he said.
