The death toll in Sitalakhya launch accident reaches 34 as five more bodies were recovered from the river on Tuesday morning and Monday night, said Narayanganj deputy commissioner Mutain Billah.
The capsized launch was pulled out of the river bed in Narayanganj on Monday afternoon.
Fire Service Narayanganj deputy asistant director Abdulla Al Arefin said that the launch was pulled out of the River Sitalakhya at 12:30pm on Monday, 18 hours after the accident.
The launch, heading towards Munshiganj from Narayanganj, was carrying over 50 passengers, the police said.
The launch capsized in the River Sitalakhya in Narayanganj as a cargo vessel hit it on Sunday evening.
Bodies of five women were recovered from the river on Sunday night and later, the rescue efforts resumed on Monday morning.
24 bodies were recovered on Monday till evening. Five more bodies were recovered at night and Tuesday morning.
BIWTA chairman Golam Sadeq said that a probe committee was formed by the BIWTA to investigate the incident.
