Kabori dies of COVID-19

Popular actress Sarah Begum Kabori died of COVID-19 at about 12:20 am on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in the capital.

She was 73.

Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association general secretary Zayed Khan confirmed the news through a post in his verified Facebook page.

‘Actress Sarah Begum Kabori is no more. May her departed soul rest in peace,’ wrote Zayed Khan.

Sarah Begum Kabori tested positive for COVID-19 on April 5.

She was admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka on the same day.

She was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit at Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital on April 8. She was put on life support on April 15.

Sarah Begum Kabori was born in Chattogram on July 19, 1948.

The actress found a niche in the minds of millions since her debut through Soovas Dutt’s Shutorang in 1964.

She used her popularity to boost the freedom fighters and Bangladeshi refugees in India during the War of Independence.

The acclaimed actress acted in about 200 films and won national film awards for two occasions — in 1978 for acting in Sareng Bou and lifetime achievement award in 2013.

She has acted in films namely Abirbhab, Je Agune Puri, Deep Nebhe Nai, Dorpo Churno, Nil Akasher Niche, Agantuk, Adhikar, Smritituku Thak, Rongbaz, Kanch Kata Heera, Upahar and others.
