Two cases filed over Banshkhali power plant clash

Two cases were filed against named and unnamed accused on Sunday over the Saturday’s clash at coal-fired power plant of S Alam Group at Baraghona under Gandamara Union of Banshkhali in Chattogram.

One case was filed by power plant authority on charge of attacking and vandalising the power plant resources and the other case was filed by police on charge of assaulting them, Kabir Ahmed, additional superintendent (south) of Chattogram district police, told New Age.

Banshkhali police sub-inspector Md Rasheduzzaman Beg filed a case accusing 2000 to 2500 unidentified people on charge of attacking police, Md Shafiul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali police station, told New Age.

Faruk Ahmed, chief coordinator of S S Power Plant-1, filed another case accusing 22 named and 1040 to 1050 unidentified people on charge of vandalising and looting at the plant resources, the OC said.

However, the OC didn't disclose the identities of the named accused in the case.

No one was arrested over the incident so far, the OC said.

Faruk Ahmed, chief coordinator of S S Power Plant-1, told New Age that the filed a case with Banshkhali police station on charge of vandalising and looting at the plant resources.

At least five workers were killed and 14 other, including three cops, were injured as police opened fire on them while the workers at an under-construction coal-fired power plant of S Alam Group at Baraghona under Gandamara union of Banshkhali in Chattogram on Saturday were demonstrating at the plant from the morning over several demands, including reducing duty time by two hours during Ramadan and payment of dues.

Workers blamed police for opening fire on their peaceful protest for dues and reducing working hours during the month of fasting for the Muslims.
