The authorities on Friday began to strictly enforce the Covid restrictions, especially on public movement, in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district to check a surge in Covid cases.

The strict restrictions will be in effect in Teknaf for 10 days till May 30 and for an indefinite period at the five Rohingya camps in Ukhia, said officials.
Currently the government has been implementing countrywide Covid restrictions on public movement and activities since April 14, which were extended and relaxed in phases amid widespread violations.

‘The number of coronavirus cases has been increasing in Teknaf and Ukhia at an alarming rate for days,’ he said, adding that the decision was taken against this spike in infections Covid cases.
‘We are strictly monitoring the situation so that none can leave or enter Teknaf upazila without any emergency,’ he said.
The UNO said that people having no work outside were asked to stay inside their home.
‘We are also asking the people to wear mask everywhere, maintain social distancing and not to travel by any transport occupying all seats,’ he said.
According to Shamsud Duza, Additional Refugee, Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, Cox’s Bazar, they have been also strictly implementing the restrictions on public movement and maintaining the health rules at five Rohingya camps — Camp-2, Camp-3, Camp-4, Camp-15 and Camp-24 in Kutupalong West D-5 area, Tarkies Bridge area and Japanese Bridge area under Ukhia police station and in Ledha area under Teknaf police station of the district since Thursday until further notice as Covid infections were rising in the areas.
‘We will stop any entry into and exit from the camps,’ he said.
Shamsud Duza also said that 165 Covid positive cases were detected at these five camps between May 14 and 20, with 45 persons being infected on May19 and 20 alone.
Since the coronavirus outbreak in the country last year, 13 out of the total 913 infected Rohingyas at the refugee camps have died, he added.
