Khaleda recovers from fever: Fakrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said that fever of the party chairperson Khaleda Zia was under control.

He revealed the information to journalists after placing wreaths at the party founder Ziaur Rahman grave in the capital.

Fakrul said that the government ignored the requests of BNP to allow former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s treatment in abroad.

He said that Khaleda, who was suffering from various post-Covid complications, suffered from fever since Thursday night after recovering from Covid-19.

Her medical team had kept her under observation for 48 hours, Fakrul said.

Confirming the matter, the 10-member medical team member AZM Zahid Hossain, who has been staying at the hospital since Khaleda’s admission there, told New Age that the physicians took the time to check the reason of fever in this stage of post-Covid complications.

Khaleda tested positive for Covid-19 on April 11 and negative on May 5. She was admitted to the hospital on April 28 and later shifted to Coronary Care Unit.

The 74-year-old former prime minister was taking treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital as the government rejected her family application for treatment abroad.

On May 5, the BNP chairperson’s younger brother Shamim Eskander submitted an application to home minister Asaduzzaman Khan seeking permission to send her abroad for better treatment.

On May 9, he told reporters that the government had rejected the application as Khaleda was a convict and that there was no instance of allowing a convict to go abroad for treatment.

Khaleda was released from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University’s prison cell on March 25, 2020 on an executive order on conditions that she would take medical treatment at home and would not leave the country.
