Construction work of underground metro rail to start next year
The construction work of the Bangladesh’s first ever underground metro rail on airport and Purbachal routes in the capital will start in March next year.
‘Currently the works of detailed designing and land acquisition of the Mass Rapid Transit Line -1 is ongoing,’ said the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Company Limited managing director MAN Siddique on Thursday.
He disclosed the information while addressing a virtual press conference.
Siddique said that the 31.241 kilometres long MRT line-1 was divided in two routes — 19.72 km airport or underground route between Hazrat Shahjalal international airport and Kamalapur and 11.369 km long Purbachal route between Natunbazar and Pitalganj.
On the line total 21 stations would be constructed with the depot in Pitalganj area while total 25 trains would run with eight coaches on each train, he said.
Each train would carry 3,088 passengers while in every 2.30 minutes a train would start on airport route and in every 4.40 minutes on Purbachal route, he said.
It would be a 24.30-minutes journey on airport and 20.35-minutes journey on Purbachal routes, he further said.
The managing director also said that the estimated project cost of the project was Tk 52,561 crore which was scheduled to be completed by December 2026.
