Schoolgirl killed after rape in Rajshahi

Unidentified assailants killed an 11-year-old schoolgirl after raping her near her residence at village Lalitonagar under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi early Sunday.

The deceased is Sumaiya Khaun, 11, daughter of Anowar Hossain.

Sub-inspector Mahmudul Hasan, in-charge of Kakonhat police outpost, quoting the victim’s family members said Sumaiya went to bed at about 11:00pm on Saturday after watching television with her parents.

On Sunday morning, he said, the family members found none in her bedroom and later her body was found under a pile of straw.

The police official said that, during inquest, blood was found in her private part through which it can be assumed that she was killed after rape.

He said that the crime might be committed anytime in the early hours of Sunday and the assailants hid the body under the pile of straw.

Mahmudul said that the body was sent to Rajshshi Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

‘We have been trying to detect the assailant(s). A case will be lodged with Godagari police station in this connection,’ he said.
