Covid-19 kills 112, infects 7766 more in Bangladesh

Covid-19 killed 112 more people and infected 7,666 others in the past 24 hours until 8:00am on Tuesday.

With the latest tally, the death toll hits 14,388 and infections 9,04,436.

The test positivity rate for the past 24 hours was 23.97 per cent, the highest since Covid outbreak in the country in March 2020.

The daily Covid situation update by the Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics.

A total of 31,982 samples have been tested during the reporting period at 565 labs across the country. Bangladesh had tested a total of 65,73,822 samples as of June 29.

Among the deceased, 67 are male and 45 female patients.

Seventy seven of them died at public hospitals, 21 at private ones, 13 died at their homes, and another Covid patient was brought dead to a hospital, said the government statistics.

A total of 4,027 people recovered from the viral disease totalling the number to 811,700.

The daily update shows that 61 of the deceased were aged above 60 years, 24 aged between 51 and 60 years, 10 between 41 and 50 years, 14 between 31 and 40 years, 2 between 21 to 30 and one patient was aged between 11 and 20 years.

Bangladesh officially announced the presence of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020 while recorded the first death on March 18, 2020.

Besides the Covid deaths, a good number of people having Covid symptoms died at places of the country.

New Age Correspondents in Rajshahi, Khulna, Satkhira, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah and Chattogram, quoting hospital and health officials, reported that a total of 74 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the seven districts in 24 hours ending Tuesday morning.

The reports showed that the number of deaths with symptoms was higher than the deaths of Covid positive patients.

According to the reports, of the 74 deaths in Covid units in the seven districts, 34 were Covid positive patients and remaining 40 ones died with symptoms of Covid infection.
