Bangladesh national shot to death by BSF at Lalmonirhat border

The Indian Boder Security Force has Killed a Bangladesh national while fetching cows at Shamsernagar border of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat on early Tuesday.
Patgram police officer-in-charge Omar Faruq confirmed the information on Tuesday afternoon.


The deceased was identified as Rifat Hossain, 20, son of Ismail Hossain of village Munsirhat under Jagatber union of Patgram upazila.


Quoting the victim’s family, Rangpur-61 BGB Battalion and Patgram police said that BSF members opened fire when they were trying to fetch cows from India at the Shamsernagar border in Jagatber Union of Patgram Upazila around 4:30am on Tuesday.


At the time of the incident, members of the Indian Border Security Force dragged Rifat’s body to India.


Rangpur 61-BGB Battalion Shamsernagor company commander Subedar Belal Hossain said, a group of five to seven people, including Rifat, went to village Bhagramguri in Cooch Behar district of India on Tuesday morning through Main Pillar no 862 of Shamsernagar border in Patgram upazila.


Rifat was killed when members of BSF Chongarkhata camp opened fire on him. BSF members then dragged his body away.


The BGB had asked BSF for a flag meeting, but there was no response from the BSF, he added.
