Bangladesh extends closure of education institutions until July 31
Bangladesh government has further extended the ongoing closure of educational institutions to July 31 from June 30 amid the surge in Covid infections and the ongoing ‘lockdown’ to contain the surge.
The decision to extend the closure has been taken in consultation with the national advisory committee on Covid-19 and considering the health issue of students, teachers and parents, said a press release of the education ministry on Tuesday.
All schools, colleges and madrassahs will remain closed till 31, the release said.
In the backdrop of recent hike in Covid cases and deaths in the country, the government on June 27 imposed fresh restriction on public movement and ordered to close all the shopping malls, markets, tourist centres, tourist resorts, community centres and entertainment centres between
6:00am on June 28 and 6:00am on July 1.
The government also announced weeklong ‘strict lockdown’ across the country from July 1 morning.
The country logged the highest-ever daily Covid cases at 8,364 in 24-hour period untill 8:00am on Monday and the highest-ever daily Covid deaths at 119 on Sunday.
With the new numbers, the death toll from the disease has hit 14,276 and the total number of infections 8,96,770 until Monday morning, according to the daily Covid update from the Directorate General of Health Services.
