Railway to run special cattle train from July 17

Bangladesh Railway is scheduled to run a Cattle Special Train between July 17 and July 19 to carry sacrificial animals ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.

The freight train would run on Dewanganj (Jamalpur)-Kamalapur (Dhaka) route, confirmed the railways ministry senior information officer Md Shariful Alam on Tuesday.

The number of the train will be increased based on the demand of the businesspeople on the route.

Besides this the railway has taken initiative to carry sacrificial animals from Khulna and Chapainawabganj.

If businesspeople show interests, then the number of special trains will be increased on these two routes.

Each of the freight trains has the capacity of carrying 400 animals at a time.

The train will start from Dewanganj Bazar area at 3:30pm and reach Kamalapur railway station next day at 6:00am.

In 2020 the railway took the same initiative which fell flat due to difficulties in bringing animals to the stations, loading those in the wagons and then unloading, and again taking those to the cattle markets mainly discourage businesspeople to avail this facility.

Railway previously carried sacrificial animals from Dewanganj to Kamalapur station in Dhaka in 2008.
