Mobile court fines three on DU campus
A mobile court drive on Monday night fined three people on Dhaka University campus without the authorities’ permission.
Dhaka South City Corporation Zone-1 executive magistrate Merina Nazneen operated the drive while DSCC 21 no ward councilor Asaduzzaman Asad was also present.
The incident took place in front of the Institute of Modern Language on the campus at about 9:00pm.
Students expressed their concern about such kinds of drive on the campus without the authorities’ permission.
Witnesses said that the magistrate fined three people in front of the IML gate.
seeking anonymity, a witness said that conducting a drive on the university campus without the authorities’ permission was completely illegal.
The magistrate, Merina Nazneen, said that she was working in Shahbag area and she fined the three Tk 200 each as they were not wearing masks.
About the university authorities’ permission, she said, ‘The cabinet has permitted us. Everything is under the concern of the cabinet. Besides, these roads are not the university’s property. It is under city corporation area.’
Dhaka University proctor Professor AKM Golam Rabbani said, 'They should have taken permission for operating drive on the campus. The magistrate informed me about the incident after the drive.’
