Khaleda, Tarique AL’s greatest fear: Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia, in London at present, said on Thursday that she and her eldest son Tarique Rahman were the ‘biggest fear’ of the Awami League.
‘The biggest fear of Awami Lea gue is Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman,’ Khaleda said while exchanging Eid greetings in London on the day of Eid-ul-Azha.
She said every time anything happened, Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman’s names came up.
The Eid reception was organised at Fairlop Water Park auditorium in London in the afternoon.
People of different professions from the Bangladesh expatriate community in the UK and leaders and activists of BNP joined the function and exchanged greetings with Khaleda.
Khaleda said the ‘one-party’ parliament had no work beside abusing Khaleda, Tarique and late president Ziaur Rahman.
Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman were present at the dais with Khaleda Zia.
The BNP chairperson said her party wanted politics of peace, development and unity among all, including the Awami League, to take Bangladesh forward.
‘We want politics of unity, working with Awami Leaguers. There are both good and bad people inside AL. They also love the country and there are good people among them,’ she said.
She said this government would not be able to construct the Padma bridge and if her party is voted to power they would build two Padma bridges.
People will bring BNP to power if fair and neutral elections takes place, she added.
Khaleda celebrated Eid with her family members after about eight years, as her two sons, Tarique Rahman and late Arafat Rahman Koko, along with their families, went abroad for medical treatment in 2008 during the army-backed caretaker government rule.
Tarique has been staying in London since. Koko’s wife and his two daughters arrived in London from Malaysia to celebrate Eid with Khaleda.
Earlier in the morning on Eid day, Khaleda spent time with her family members at Tarique’s residence in Kingston.
The BNP chairperson said democracy will have to be restored to free the people.
She said the entire nation was waiting for emancipation and urged Bangladeshi expatriates to play a role like in the country’s Liberation War in the current struggle for freedom.
She said the incumbent government had turned the entire country into a prison. Each leader and activist of our party are on the run having been implicated in different cases, she said.
