Pressure on ferries reduces as launches keep carrying passengers

The pressure of on foot passengers and vehicles on the ferries of Shimulia-Banglabazar route reduced on Monday.

However, the passengers were not seen maintaining health guidelines amid the countrywide Covid-19 restrictions.

There is still huge pressure of passengers on the launches. The launches were seen coming to Shimulia ghat from Banglabazar with more passengers than its capacity.

Meanwhile, due to the closure of public transport, people were seen taking small vehicles with two to three times extra fares to reach their destinations.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority Shimulia ghat assistant manager Mahbubur Rahman said that there were nine ferries on the Shimulia-Banglabazar route on Monday.

BIWTA Shimulia launch dock inspector Md Soleiman said that there were 36 launches on the route which were allowed to travel till afternoon until further notice.
