Last segment of last viaduct of Metro Rail installed
The last segment of the last viaduct of the first-ever metro rail in Bangladesh was installed on Thursday in the capital.
The last segment was installed at the National Press Club area connecting the pier 582 and pier 583.
Following this currently the viaduct of the 20.1-kilometre-long elevated metro rail line between Uttara Phase-3 and the Bangladesh Bank in Motijheel via Pallabi, Rokeya Sarani, Khamarbari, Farmgate, Karwanbazar, Shahbagh, Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Centre, Doyel Chatwar and Topkhana Road, under the Mass Rapid Transit Line 6 project became fully visible.
In a virtual ceremony, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited installed the segment of the viaduct around 11:15am.
Earlier on August 1, 2017, the company started installing the viaduct for the rail project, said the company managing director MAN Siddique.
Within April this year they were scheduled to clean the occupied roads under the project areas, he also said.
Till December last year, the project had 74.04 per cent progress in works.
The metro rail is scheduled to run commercially on the Uttara-Agargaon route from December 2022 while it will launch passenger services between Uttara and Motijheel in December 2023.
As per the development project proforma, the deadline of the project is 2024, while officials said that the government was working on the early commissioning of the project.
Following a directive from the Prime Minister’s Office, the company started working on extending the line by 1.16 kilometres up to Kamalapur.
It will carry 60,000 passengers per hour from both ends by 24 trains at the highest speed of 100 kilometres per hour after the completion.
