20 injured as police charge batons on Juba Dal in Chattogram
At least 20 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal were injured as the police allegedly charge batons on them after a rally at Kazir Deuri in Chattogram on Thursday afternoon.
Mosharaf Hossain Dipti, president of Chattogram city unit Juba Dal, told New Age that police intentionally charged batons on Juba Dal activists while they were waiting on the road.
‘At least 20 of our activists were injured in police attack’, he said.
The Juba Dal leader also alleged that the police intercepted Juba Dal activists while they were attending at the rally with processions.
However, police denied the allegations of charging batons on Juda Dal activists.
Mohammad Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, told New Age that the Juba Dal activists blocked the road after the rally in front of BNP office at Kazir Deuri in the port city and the police tried to remove them from the road.
The OC said that police chased the Juba Dal activists.
Chattogram city unit Juba Dal organised the rally to protest against the price hike of daily essential commodities.
BNP central joint general secretary Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel addressed the rally as the chief guest while Chattogram city unit Juba Dal president Mosharaf Hossain Dipti presided over the rally.
He alleged that AL leaders and activists were behind the price hike of daily essential commodities.
‘People are passing days in utter hardship. Low and middle income people are the most sufferer as the prices of all the daily needs are out of people’s purchase capacity,’ he said.
