BNP leader Ishraq arrested in Dhaka

Police arrested Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Ishraq Hossain on Wednesday afternoon in the capital’s Motijheel area while he was distributing leaflets against price hike of essential goods.

The BNP leader was arrested as he was a warranted accused in a case filed over setting fire to bus in Motijheel area in 2020, said DMP Motijheel zone additional deputy commissioner Enmaul Haque Mithu.

Ishraq would be produced before court, the police officer said.

Ishraq is BNP foreign affairs committee member and the party’s Dhaka City South unit committee’s first member.

BNP Chairperson’s media wing official Sairul Kabir Khan said that Ishraq and some other leaders were distributing leaflets in Motijheel area protesting price hike of essential commodities.
