Bangladesh reports 42 new Covid cases, zero death

Bangladesh reported 42 new Covid cases and no death in the past 24 hours ending 8:00am on Sunday.

The daily test positivity rate was 0.80 per cent on the day after 5,244 tests conducted in the reporting time, according to the data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services.

Both the case number and test positivity rate were increased slightly compared with Saturday. The number of new cases was 28 and positivity rate was 0.62 per cent on the day.

The daily Covid case count fell below 50 the first time on March 27 when the country reported 43 new cases.

On March 19, the daily Covid caseload fell below 100 for the first time.

On Sunday, Sylhet and Barishal divisions reported zero infection.

Dhaka division reported 36 new cases while Rajshahi reported two cases and Mymensingh, Chattogram, Khulna, and Rangpur reported one case each.

Bangladesh officially confirmed its first Covid case on March 8, 2020.

The latest figures took the cumulative Covid death toll to 29,123, with the tally of patients hitting 19,52,065.

A total of 18,88,640 patients have recovered, the DGHS said.

The country reported first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.

On January 28, Bangladesh logged its previous highest daily positivity rate at 33.37 per cent reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28, 2021, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10, 2021.
