Bangladesh to vaccinate 2.3m people in diarrhoea prone areas
The Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday at a virtual press conference declared that it would provide oral vaccine to 2.3 million people living in five diarrhoea prone areas in the capital to grow better resistance against diarrhoea.
Bangladesh health authorities came up with the declaration at a time of diarrhoea outbreak in the capital and some districts of Bangladesh amid this summer heat wave.
On an average around 4,000 people across the country are becoming diarrhea patients every day.
Director general of the health service ABM Khurshid Alam said that the mass vaccination will be started in May in diarrhoea prone Jatrabari, Dakkhinkhan, Mohammadpur, Mirpur and Sabujbagh areas in the capital.
The authorities will start vaccinating people with the second dose of the oral vaccine against cholera on June.
‘Any person, except pregnant women, aged above one-year will be eligible for the vaccines,’ he said.
DGHS director for communicable disease control unit Nazmul Islam and IEDCR director Tahmina Shirin, among others spoke at the programme.
