Rail communications across Bangladesh restored after seven hours
The rail communication across Bangladesh was restored on Wednesday afternoon after a seven-hour suspension as the running staffs of Bangladesh Railway withdrew their strike around 12:00pm.
The rail communication across Bangladesh remained suspended since Wednesday morning as the running staffs of Bangladesh Railway went on a work abstention demanding mileage allowance with their pension.
Suffering of people reached to peak as movement of trains at all stations remained halted since 5:00am on the day.
Running staffs include locomasters, assistant Loco master, guards and ticket checkers.
The running staffs used to get mileage facilities which means that if they work more than eight hours, they get extra allowance based on basics and during retirement they used to get 75 per cent allowance with their basics.
The authorities on November 3 cancelled these facilities issuing a circular.
Since then the running stuffs are holding demonstrations to get back the facilities.
On April 10, the finance division in an order cancelled their proposal again.
Since Wednesday morning huge number of passengers were seen at the rail stations across the country.
The railways minister, Nurul Islam Sujan, and secretary Humayun Kabir held a meeting with the demonstrators at Kamalapur Rail Station in Dhaka.
‘The railways minister assured them to meet their demands,’ said railways ministry senior public relations officer Md Shariful Alam.
The minister said they would cancel the April 10 order.
The train movement would start at 1:00pm, Shariful Alam said.
