SQC, MOJAHEED EXECUTION : Warrants issued

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Thursday issued the warrants for the execution of death penalties of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.
The verdicts of Appellate Division upholding their death sentences were read out to the two war crimes death row inmates by the superintendents of two jails.
Dhaka Central Jail senior Superintendent Md Jahangir Kabir read it out to Mojaheed.
Kashimpur Part 1 Jail’s superintendent Subrata Kumar Bala read out the apex court’s verdict to Salauddin, said the officials of the two prisons.
Separate red envelops containing the copies of the verdicts of the apex court and the warrants of execution wrapped in red cloth, were sent to the Dhaka Central Jail’s Superintendent by the ICT-1.
The Dhaka Central Jail super sent the verdict and the warrant relating to Salauddin to his counterpart in the Kashimpur Part 1 jail.
In his instant reaction, Mojaheed told the prison official that he would file a petition seeking review of his death sentence.
Mojaheed also expressed the desire to meet his family members and consult his lawyers, said the jail official.
Mohaheed told the jail official that he came to know about the apex court releasing its full verdict on radio Wednesday.
Salauddin also expressed his desire to seek review of the apex court’s decision.
ICT registrar Md Shahidul Alam Zinuk issued the warrants of execution.
Copies of the full verdicts of the apex court were also sent to home secretary, law secretary, the district magistrate of Dhaka, said the ICT registrar.
On June 16, the apex court pronounced a brief verdict upholding Mojaheed’s death sentence.
On July 29, it upheld Salauddin’s death sentence.
On July 17, 2013, the ICT-2 sentenced Mojaheed to death finding him guilty of five war crimes charges including his complicity in killing intellectuals towards the fag end of the Liberation War.
On October 1, 2013, the ICT-1 sentenced Salauddin to death for abetting and participating with Pakistani occupation army in the killing 57 people at Rawjan, Chittagong in April 1971.
