DU BBA student jumps off 16-story building, dies

A 22-year-old BBA second-year student of Dhaka University killed herself by jumping off the roof of the 16-story building of her home at Mohammadpur in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Wednesday evening, police said.

Zaina Habib, a student of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, used to live in the Japan Garden City of Adabor.

Mujib Ahmed Patwari, assistant commissioner of Mohammadpur Zone Police, said that they, after examining closed-circuit television footage of the roof, found that Zaina had committed suicide.

Zaina went to the top of their apartment building and locked its door around 5:00pm when it was raining.

At one point, she jumped off the roof, leaving a suicide note, and died on the spot, Mujib said.

"Police handed over the body to Zaina's family instead of taking it away for a postmortem as they did not make any complaint about the death," the police officer said.
