EC changes statement over Cumilla lawmaker Bahar issue
The chief election commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on Monday said that the commission did not order Cumilla-6 Awami League lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar to leave the area during the mayoral election in the Cumilla city that was held on June 15.
While addressing a press conference at the Nirbachon Bahaban in Dhaka the CEC said that the commission did not see the lawmaker during election campaigning.
‘Some people said that Bahar was participating in the electione ‘tactically’. Then we decided to request him to leave the area to avoid controversy,’ the CEC said.
‘The EC even cannot ask anyone to leave their locality. We did not order him to leave the area, we requested him cordially,’ he added.
The CEC also dismissed the allegation of result manipulation of Cumilla City Corporation elections.
