Japan, SK citizens asked to move cautiously in Bangladesh
Japan and South Korea in separate advisories on Saturday alerted their citizens to exercise utmost security precaution in their movements anywhere in Bangladesh.
The two embassies issued the advisories within hours of a Japanese citizen being shot and killed by three unknown assailants in Rangpur Saturday morning.
‘We have issued an e-mail alert,’ a Japanese embassy official told New Age over phone Saturday evening.
In the advisory, Japan asked its citizens and their families to exercise precaution while they move or stay outside.
The embassy of Japan also requested the country’s citizens in Bangladesh to avoid nonessential movements on foot or using bicycles, motorbikes and rickshaws.
It advised them to use cars in their movements.
The advisory was issued after three assailants shot and killed 65-year old Hoshi Kunio near his farmhouse located at about 10-KM from the Rangpur district town.
The South Korean advisory requested its citizens to exercise high precaution to ensure personal security wherever they go in Bangladesh.
‘Exercise caution and maintain a high level of personal security awareness at all times in all places,’ said the advisory issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Dhaka.
The United States urged the Bangladesh government to bring the perpetrators to justice at the earliest.
‘I am deeply saddened by the murder of Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi,’ US ambassador Marcia Bernicat said in a statement.
‘I urge the Government of Bangladesh to investigate every aspect of this crime and to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible,’ she said.
Hoshi Kunio was shot dead within a week of the killing of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella at the diplomatic zone in the capital on September 28.
The killing of Cesare Tavella prompted Canada, European Union, Italy, Switzerland, South Korea, United Kingdom and the United States to issue travel alerts in almost identical words asking their nationals to remain cautious about attending gatherings and functions.
