Four pedestrians killed in Narsingdi road accident

At least four pedestrians were killed being run over by a covered van on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Mahmudabad Bazar Machineghor area of Raypura in Narsingdi on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Faruk Miah, 55, son of Foyez Ali of Mirzapur Union in Raypura, Mustakim, 40, son pf Toiyob Ali of Nilkuthi area, and Ripon Miah, son of Sentu Miah, and Bachchu Miah, 56, son of Jonab Ali of Mahmudabad area.

Bhairab highway police said that the Sylhet-bound covered van from Dhaka lost its control and crashed into a roadside ditch after running over the four pedestrians in Machineghor area at about 8:00am.

Three of the deceased died on the spot while the other one died at Bhairab Hospital, the police said, adding that the bodies were kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.

Bhairab highway police officer-in-charge Mojammel Hossain said that they suspected that the driver of the vehicle fell asleep that caused the accident.
