Passengers suffer due to huge traffic on Dhaka-Tangail Highway
A 25-kilometre tailback was created on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangbandhu Bridge Highway in Tangail since early Thursday.
Hundreds of vehicles with passengers, goods and cattle were moving very slowly on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway due to long tailbacks from Thursday early morning, causing immense sufferings to home-bound passengers.
‘The highway is witnessing a 25-kilometre traffic jam from Bangabandhu Bridge East side to Rabna area of Tangail Sadar upazila. The traffic jam has been created due to increasing number of vehicles ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.,’ said Bangabandhu Bridge East police station officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam.
On Thursday morning, it was seen that traffic in Rabna, Bikramhati, Rasulpur, Pauli, and Elenga areas on the highway came to a halt. People were seen going to their respective destinations using different vehicles, including cattle laden trucks, pickups, and motorcycles.
Cattle trader Abul Bashar said, ‘There is a huge pressure of vehicles from NorthBengal to Tangail. Vehicles are moving slowly. Our cattle are tired. If we do not reach Dhaka on time, we will face huge loss.’
