Car bombings in Iraq claim more than 50 lives
Car bombings in Iraq killed more than 50 people on Monday in three separate attacks, according to Iraqi officials.
In Diyala province north of Baghdad, at least 45 people were killed and 70 wounded when a car bomb exploded in a busy outdoor market in the town of Al-Khalis on Monday afternoon, according to Hassan Shallal, the town's mayor.
Video of the immediate aftermath posted online showed billowing smoke and fire as survivors scramble to help the wounded. Men, women and children cry and moan as ambulance sirens can be heard approaching.
One video shows a little boy sitting in the street, his left leg cover in blood. "Please call them to help us," he pleads with passersby.
In another attack in northeastern Baghdad, two people were killed and eight others wounded when a car bomb exploded, police officials tell CNN.
Also Monday, nine people were killed and 22 wounded when a car bomb exploded on a commercial street in the town of Al-Zubayr, southwest of Basra, police tell CNN. On social media, ISIS claimed responsibility for the AL-Zubayr bombing.
No groups have claimed responsibility for the other two attacks.
