Food security for marginalised people demanded

Safe food activists on Sunday urged the government to ensure food security for marginalised people and enact a law for ensuring food security for all.

They made the demand in a discussion and rally in front of the National Museum in Bangladesh capital Dhaka marking World Food Day 2022.

They emphasised an increased social security budget, curbing daily commodity prices and forming a price commission to control commodity prices.

The activists then brought out a procession towards the faculty of fine arts of the University of Dhaka, chanted slogans to press home their demands and ended the procession in front of the National Museum.

The Right to Food Bangladesh organised the programme as part of their nine-day programme to mark the World Food Day 2022.

RFB coordinator Kaniz Fatema urged the government to take measures to secure food for the economically marginalised people.

‘The prime minister said that famine was coming, so the authorities concerned should ensure food safety for all. The government should consider enacting a food safety act,’ she said.
