Sheikh Mujib’s cancelled Pakistani passport gives Sept 9 as birthday

An image of passport issued against the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during Pakistan era stated that he was born in Faridpur on September 9, 1921.

The Awami League-government marks his March 17 birthday as National Children Day across the country and at the Bangladesh missions abroad.

The enlarged image of his passport was displayed at recently inaugurated ‘Bangabandhu Corner’ at the home ministry.

The home ministry hanged it on the entrance along with other images of the ministry, including role of the police in the 1971 War of Independence.

‘Bangadandhu’s Passport’ inscribed at the bottom of the image of the passport.

According to the Awami League official website, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on March 17 1920 at Tungipara under then Gopalganj subdivision, which is now a district, in Faridpur.

He was the third child among four daughters and two sons of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman and Sayera Khatun. His parents used to call him Khoka. He spent his childhood in Tungipara.

The image of passport also read that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a ‘land lord’ by profession. The image shows the passport stamped ‘cancelled’ in print.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan told New Age on Wednesday that he was not aware of this passport display at his ministry.
