Chhatra Dal leader injured in police firing

Police on Thursday shot a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader at Mogbazar area in the city. The victim is identified as Robiul Islam Nayan, 26, a joint convener of Chhatra Dal Mohammadpur unit. Police said Nayan is a wanted accused of several cases of arson attack and vandalism filed during the BNP sponsored blockade. Nayan is a resident of Mohammadpur but had been hiding after cases were filed against him. He came to Dhaka on Thursday morning and reserved a room in Boikaly hotel of Moghbazar, said sub-inspector of Ramna police station Saiful Khan. Police went to the hotel to arrest Nayan in the noon, he fired gunshots at the law enforcers and police also retaliated injuring him in his leg, he said. Meanwhile, Nayan said he had no arms with him and alleged that police forcefully took him at the back of the hotel and shot him. Later police admitted Nayan to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital with bullet wound around 2:00pm, confirmed hospital police out-post in-charge Mojammel Haque.
