Left parties organise anti-power-plant road march to Sunderbans

Democratic Left Alliance, a combine of eight left leaning political parties will organise a road march to the Sundarban to press home their demand for cancelling the Rampal Thermal Power Plant project.
The proposed plant—situated near the largest mangrove forest in the world—will put the forest ecology at risk of falling apart because of the emissions to be caused by the thermal power plant and transportation of coal, the DLA leaders said.
Saiful Huq, the coordinator of combine, on Saturday announced the 3-day programme in a press conference at Segunbagicha in the city.
‘One of the prime reasons of the road march is to make people aware about the consequences of the plant and   involve them in the movement, ‘Saiful Huq said.
The road march will start following a rally in front of the National Press Club, at 10:00am on October 16.
Some 500 marchers, including the leaders and activists of DLA, will board buses and cars to travel to Bagerhat, Saiful Huq said.
The marchers will hold several road-side rallies on their way to Bagerhat, to the edge of the forest.  Starting from the capital the marchers will hold a rally in front of Rana Plaza at Savar bus stand, then another one in Manikganj. They will stay overnight at Goalanda.
