SAMIUL MURDER CASE : Prime suspect Kamrul sent to jail
Kamrul Islam, the prime suspect in the sensational 13-year-old boy Samiul Alam Rajon killing case, was sent to jail on Friday.
Sylhet Metropolitan Court-II magistrate Anwarul Karim issued the order at noon after Kamrul was produced in the court seeking its directive, public prosecutor Mafur Ali told New Age.
Jalalabad police officer-in-charge Akhter Hossain said they produced Kamrul, who was absconding, to the court around 11:00am seeking its directive and the court ordered him to be sent to jail after a hearing.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, a three-member team, led by the police headquarters’ additional deputy inspector general Mahbubul Karim, reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka with Kamrul from Saudi Arabia.
Later, he was taken to the Sylhet city around 8:45pm on the day. He was also produced in a press briefing held at the Sylhet Metropolitan Police headquarter at Naiorpul around 10:00pm.
Kamrul, his brother Ali Haidar, Muhith Alam and Shamim Ahmad beat Rajon to death on July 8 branding him a thief when he went to Sheikhpara to sell vegetables.
Rajon was the eldest of two sons of Sheikh Azizul Islam, a microbus driver of sadar upazila.
Kamrul left the country for his work place in Saudi Arab two days after the incident on July 11 and the Saudi police arrested him in Jeddah on July 13.
Sylhet Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court recorded testimonies of 35 out of 38 prosecution witnesses in the case for killing Rajon still Thursday and the court set Sunday next to record submissions of the rest witnesses, the court sources said.
Earlier on September 22, the court framed charges against 13 accused in the case. The investigation officer in the case, Suranjit Talukder, had submitted the charge sheet on August 16.
Locals caught Muhith at noon of July 8 when he and his accomplices were trying to dump Rajon’s body at a lonely place near Kumargaon Bus Terminal in the city and handed him over to the police.
Talking to the reporters at the metropolitan court premises on Friday noon, Rajon’s father Azizul alleged that relatives of Kamrul and other accused were creating pressuring him in different ways to reach in an understanding with them over the case.
‘They threatened me in different times of dire consequence if I do not reach an understanding with them,’ he claimed.
