Imran H Sarker threatened with death

Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker has been threatened with death allegedly by a member of ‘Islamic State Bangladesh’.
A facebook user named ‘Araf Al Islam ISB’ on Saturday issued the threat through Imran’s facebook message box saying, ‘your death is imminent. You will be killed in the way the two foreigners were killed,’ said Imran in a post on his verified facebook page.
Imran filed a general diary in this regard with the Shahbagh Police Station in the afternoon, said Shahbagh police officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique.
Imran in his facebook post said the surname of the facebook user ‘ISB’ stood for ‘Islamic State Bangladesh’. The profile picture showed a flag like that of the ISIS, a Middle East-based Sunni militant group.
Imran shared a screenshot of the facebook page and said that the person who issued the threat used mobile internet and mentioned Mymensingh’s Anandamohan College as his address.
He said such threats should not be given ‘much importance’ but added that he felt it was important to act strongly against such people and the police and the people should know this.
Shahbagh police OC said, ‘Imran filed a GD saying that he was threatened with death though facebook message… We are taking necessary measure to ensure his security.’
Several other people involved with the Ganagajaran Mancha, which presses for maximum penalty for war criminals and banning religion-based politics in the country, have been hacked to death in the recent months.
Since February, four secular bloggers were hacked to death by religious fanatics.
On August 6, blogger Niloy Chatterjee was hacked to death at his home in Dhaka while Ananta Bijoy Das, another blogger, was hacked to death on his way to work in Sylhet on May 12.
On March 30, blogger Washiqur Rahman Babu was hacked to death by three men in Dhaka while Avijit Roy, a prominent Bangladeshi-American blogger, was killed and his wife was injured on Dhaka University campus on February 26.
The name of ISIS came up in Bangladesh in the wake of two foreigners’ murder in the capital and Rangpur.
Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella was shot dead at Gulshan diplomatic enclave of Dhaka on September 28 while Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi was shot dead in Rangpur on October 3.
The ISIS reportedly claimed the responsibility for the murders of the two foreigners, with the Bangladesh government denying the ISIS connection.
