SAMIUL MURDER CASE : Court concludes recording testimonies in Sylhet

Recording of testimonies of the prosecution witnesses in the case of sensational killing of a 13-year old child, Samiul Alam Rajon, was concluded on Sunday.
Sylhet metropolitan session judge’s court also turned down a prayer filed by the prime suspect Kamrul Islam in the case that the court records testimonies afresh in his presence, the court sources said.
Plaintiff Azizul Islam’s counsel, EU Shahidul Islam, told New Age that the court wrapped up recording of the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses.
He said metropolitan session judge Akbar Hossain Mridha closed obtaining evidences from witnesses after recording testimonies of 36 out of 38 prosecution witnesses in the case.
‘The court on Sunday recorded the submission of the investigation officer of the case, Suranjit Talukder, also an inspector of the detective branch of Sylhet Metropolitan Police,’ Shahidul Islam said.
‘The court also set October 25 for beginning cross examination of the witnesses,’ he pointed out.
Kamrul was produced before the court for the first time on Sunday morning along with other accused. The security of the court premises was scaled up.
Hundreds of people at that moment chanted slogans demanding capital punishment for Kamrul, eyewitnesses said.
The man was brought back to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia on Thursday afternoon. Kamrul’s younger brother Shamim Ahmad and another accused Pavel Ahmad went into hiding since filing of the murder case on July 8.
Kamrul and Ali Haidar, sons of late Abdul Malik of Sheikhpara village of sadar upazila, Muhith Alam and Shamim Ahmad beat Rajon to death on July 8, on allegation that the child had ‘stolen’ a rickshaw van.
Rajon was the eldest of two sons of Sheikh Azizul Islam, a microbus driver of Bade Ali village in the same sadar upazila.
Kamrul flew back to his overseas job in Saudi Arab two days after the nerve-chilling murder on July 11. The Saudi police arrested him at Jeddah on July 13.
