One killed, scores injured in bomb blasts at Hussaini Dalan

A teenage boy was killed and scores others were injured, some of them badly, in a series of deadly blasts targeting a gathering of Shia Muslims at Hussaini Dalan in Dhaka early Saturday.
Police said at least four crude bombs were exploded as thousands of Shia Muslims gathered at Hussaini Dalan to bring out a procession marking the mourning day of Ashura at about 1:45am on Saturday.
Police said the injured included many women and children. The boy declared dead at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital was identified as Sajjad Hossain Sanju, a class six student.
On duty doctors said at least 50 wounded people were brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Many other injured were taken to Mitford Hospital.
Major Jahangir Kabir, a senior official at Rapid Action Battalion-10, told New Age that the unidentified assailants exploded at least four crude bombs as the procession was about to start.
As the bombs went off, people ran for cover and the organisers immediately postponed the procession, but said they would go on with the programmes on Saturday.
‘We condemn this heinous attack… our programmes will go on,’ said one of the organigers and a Shia leader Habib Raza Hussaini.
Hussaini said about 2,00,000 people gathered around Hussaini Dalan to join the procession.
Police said they had beefed up security in and around Hussaini Dalan. Besides, police and Rapid Action Battalion, paramilitary troopers from the Border Guards of Bangladesh were also deployed at Hussaini Dalan.
