ZIA CHARITABLE TRUST CASE : Khaleda to return home by Nov 7: lawyers
Defence counsel told the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3 on Thursday that Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia would return home from London by November 7 as she wanted to appear before the court in the trial.
The defence counsel informed it to the court pleading that the next date of the hearing in the Zia Charitable Trust case should be fixed after November 7 so that Khaleda could appear before the court.
As the court wanted to stick to its earlier decision for holding the trial proceedings on every Thursday, defence counsel Masud Ahmed Talukder said, ‘Is it because of Khaleda Zia?’
Another defence counsel AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon told the court, ‘Why Khalea’s cases see rocket speed?…It will give wrong message to the people, as other cases are being adjourned for one month and more.’
The judge of the court, Md Abu Ahmed Jamadar, said, ‘I have examined 17 prosecution witnesses in the last 11 months…I am not riding any rocket to travelling to the moon. Keep faith in me…I am not instructed.’
The court, however, adjourned the proceedings till November 5.
The court on Thursday recorded testimony of eighteenth prosecution witness in Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Charitable Trust case against Khaleda and three others.
The witness, then Sonali Bank’s Prime Minister’s Office branch assistant general manager Mesbaul Haque, now retired, told the court that he was instructed to open an account in the name of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Charitable Trust case. He detailed how the Prime Minister’s Office officials had helped him to open the savings account and how he got the signature of the then prime minister, Khaleda Zia.
