Prices of edible oil, broiler go up

The prices of unpacked soya bean oil and broiler increased in the capital’s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday.
Traders said that the prices of edible oil increased as the refiners squeezed supply a bit and the price of broiler went up due to an increase in demand.
The prices of unpacked soya bean oil increased by Tk 2 a litre and the item was selling at Tk 76-Tk 80 a litre on Friday while palm oil were selling at Tk 64-Tk 66 a litre on the day.
The price of bottled soya bean oil remained unchanged. An one-litre container of soya bean oil was selling at Tk 100 while a five-litre container was selling at Tk 470-Tk 480 on Friday.
The price of broiler increased by Tk 15 a kilogram and the item was selling at Tk 135-Tk 140 a kg while the locally-bred hens were selling at Tk 300-Tk 350 a kg on the day.
Beef was selling at Tk 370-Tk 400 a kg while mutton was being sold at Tk 500-Tk 550 a kg on Friday.
The prices of fish remained unchanged over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 280-Tk 350 a kg, katla at Tk 250-Tk 350 a kg, pangas at Tk 140-Tk 200 a kg and tilapia at Tk 120-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
The prices of vegetables remained high.
Aubergine was selling at Tk 60-Tk 80 a kg, bitter gourd at Tk 60 a kg, okra at Tk 70 a kg, ribbed gourd at Tk 60 a kg, cucumber at Tk 50 a kg, tomato at Tk 120 a kg, papaya at Tk 30 a kg and green chilli at Tk 200 a kg over the week.
The price of onion remained unchanged and the local item was selling at Tk 60-Tk 65 a kg while imported item was selling at Tk 50-Tk 65 a kg on Friday.
Potato price remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 24-Tk 26 a kg in the city’s kitchen markets.
The price of egg remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 32 a hali (four pieces) in the city.
Red lentil price also remained unchanged. The fine variety of the item was selling at Tk 120-Tk 125 a kg while the imported one (coarse variety) was selling at Tk 100 a kg.
Imported garlic was selling at Tk 100-Tk 110 a kg while the local variety was selling at Tk 80 a kg on Friday.
The price of coarse variety of rice was retailing at Tk 32-Tk 34 a kg over the week.
The fine variety of miniket rice was selling at Tk 50-Tk 53 a kg while the coarse variety was retailing at Tk 47-Tk 48 a kg in the city’s retail markets.
The fine variety of BR-28 rice was selling at Tk 42-Tk 45 a kg and the coarse variety was selling at Tk 38-Tk 40 a kg on Friday.
