At least three people were injured as the ruling party’s youth and student wings clashed in Central Railway Building area under Kotowali police station in the port city on Sunday.
Police opened fire to contain the rioting ruling party men.
The groups — one led by former Juba League central committee member Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar and the other former central Chhatra League assistant secretary Saiful Alam Limon — traded gunshots during the clash.
Two activists of Babar group were injured in the clash before the police brought the situation under control at about 1:00pm.
