Ganjagaran Mancha shutdown underway peacefully
A half-day nationwide hartal sponsored by Ganajagaran Mancha protesting at the killing of secular publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan and attacks on another publisher and bloggers is underway peacefully on Tuesday. Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar announced the shutdown from a rally at Shahbagh intersection on Sunday afternoon demanding arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers and attackers. Witnesses said the leaders and activists of Ganajagaran Mancha along with other progressive left alliances blocked the Shahbagh intersection since morning supporting the strike. Meanwhile, vehicular movement at Paltan, Dhaka-Aricha highway are also blocked by the strike supporters. Progressive left alliance along with different social, cultural groups started protest rally from Dhaka University around 6:00am. The city roads are seen less crowded with motorised vehicles comparatively to any other day. No untoward incident was reported till filing this report at 9:30am. Earlier on Monday the examinations of Junior School Certificate and equivalent Junior Dakhil Certificate scheduled for this morning was shifted to 2:00pm due to strike.
