Modi thanks Hasina for handing over Chetia

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday thanked his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina for ‘the help in fighting terrorism’ in his country.
He phoned Hasina and conveyed his gratitude after Bangladesh handed over ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia to India Wednesday morning.
During their talks over phone, Modi also greeted her and the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the Hindu religious festival Diwali, according to offices of the two prime ministers.
‘PM @narendramodi spoke to Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina. He wished PM Hasina on Diwali & thanked her for the help in fighting terrorism,’ said a tweet of the Indian Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.
‘Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi phoned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina this morning and greeted her and the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Deepavali,’ PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS.
He said prime minister Sheikh Hasina also greeted Narendra Modi and the people of India on the occasion.
India’s union home minister Rajnath Singh also welcomed the handing over of ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia to India by Bangladesh, saying it reflected the neighbouring country’s commitment and maturity in cooperating on issues like terror, India’s state run news agency Press Trust of India reported on Wednesday.
‘Handing over of Anup Chetia by Bangladesh shows its commitment and maturity to cooperate with India on issues like terror and organised crime,’ Singh said in a statement.
‘I welcome handing over of Anup Chetia to India by Bangladesh,’ Singh said.
Chetia, who is wanted in India for multiple cases of murder, kidnapping and extortion, was handed over to India this morning, PTI reported.
