President inaugurates Vitamin-A plus campaign
President Abdul Hamid on Friday inaugurated the national Vitamin-A Plus Campaign-2015 (second round) urging all to take their children to nearby vaccination centres.
The president formally launched the campaign nationwide by administering Vitamin-A plus capsules to a number of children at Bangabhaban.
Over 2.14 crore children, aged between six months and five years, will be fed Vitamin-A plus capsules under the national campaign on November 14.
Children, aged between six and 11 months, will be given the blue-coloured high-powered Vitamin-A capsules, while children, aged between 12 to 59 months, will receive the red-coloured ones.
Speaking on the occasion, the president said the children are the future of the nation, and the government is relentlessly working to build a beautiful Bangladesh for them. ‘We’ll be able to have a beautiful Bangladesh for the next generation if we can make the programme a success,’ he added.
Some 120,000 permanent health centres and 20,000 mobile centres will be set up at bus stands, railway stations, launch terminals, airports, ferry terminals, bridge toll centres and kheya ghats, and these will remain open from 8:00am to 4:00pm to feed the children Vitamin-A capsules.
Health minister Mohammad Nasim and health secretary Syed Monjurul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
