No Bangladeshi hurt in Paris attacks so far
Bangladesh nationals were unhurt so far in the terror attacks in Paris, a Bangladesh embassy official in the city told New Age over phone.
Bangladesh nationals were advised to stay at home in the areas where the attacks were made, a foreign ministry official in Dhaka said quoting Bangladesh ambassador in France M Shahidul Islam.
‘We are in touch with the Bangladesh community. No report of either casualty or injury was reported so far,’ the official said at 8pm Bangladesh time on Saturday.
Senior foreign ministry officials in Dhaka confirmed the statement of the Bangladesh embassy official in Paris.
Bangladesh mission in Paris established a telephone hot line to receive calls regarding the Paris incident, the foreign ministry said in a press release. The number is +33146519033.
Bangladesh strongly condemned the terror attacks that left at least 130 murdered, and about 300 injured of which 80 were in critical condition, according to news agencies.
President Abdul Hamid, prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia, in separate messages, condemned the killing of innocent people by terrorists.
President Abdul Hamid strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in the French capital that killed many innocent people and left many others injured, his press Secretary Joynal Abedin said, according to state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message to French President Francois Hollande, vowed to work together with France to fight terrorism and violent extremism.
‘Terrorists are terrorists irrespective of their colour, creed and religion and must have no place in any civilised society,’ she said.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia hoped the terrorists involved in the barbaric attacks would be brought to book and handed exemplary punishment.
They prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed their sympathy to the injured in the attacks.
French ambassador in Dhaka Sophie Aubert said in a statement, ‘France has been struck in its heart, but France is strong, and will not succumb to terror spread by obscurantist and barbaric enemies of our civilisation’.
He thanked Bangladesh and all friends of France for their expressions of solidarity.
