Bhashani remembered as pioneer of independence
Political parties from both ruling and opposition camps paid tribute to the memory of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani marking his 39th death anniversary on Tuesday.
At a discussion, some of them alleged that a quarter was trying to remove the name of Bhashani from history.
They said that Bhashani was the key player in the movement for the independence of Bangladesh.
The nation now needs a leader like Bhashani to resolve the present crisis, they said.
Workers Party Tangail district unit organised the discussion at Shaheed Minar in Tangail town. Party general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, also a ruling alliance lawmaker, and senior leader Hazera sultana, among others, addressed the programme.
They said that everyone should remember Maulana Bhashani as he was the pioneer of national independence.
Bhashani, who always stood by the oppressed and downtrodden, died on November 17, 1976.
Political leader with a difference Bhashani was known for his relentless struggle against imperialism and feudalism.
People of different professions including political leaders and activists, thronged the graveside of Maulana Bhashani at Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University at Santosh in Tangail to place wreaths and offer fateha.
Marking the day Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani Parishad organised photo exhibition and rally in front of National Museum at Shahbag.
Speakers at the programme said that the governments failed to show proper respect to Maulana Bhashani as he was one of the main organisers of all the movement for the people.
Jahangirnagar University professor Anu Muhammad said Bhashani succeeded in movement for the working class even with the religious stand.
‘But he failed to form a particular ideology for politics and that was why his political colleagues latter joined such parties which were identified by Bhashani as anti-people parties,’ Anu said.
Zonayed Saki of Ganasanghati Andolan said, ‘If we went to change the present scenario we need to know the political life of Bhashani.’
New Age correspondent in Tangail reported that a delegation of Bangladesh Nationalist Party led by vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman paid respect to the memory of late Bhashani. Addressing a gathering on the grave of premises, Noman said that the nation now needed a leader like Bhashani to resolve the present crisis.
BNP leaders Selima Rahman, Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Shirin Sultana, among others, were on the delegation.
At one stage two groups of Tangail district BNP clashed in front of the central leaders and vandalised wreaths. Police dispersed them.
Krishak Shramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddique said Bhashani had dreamt a country where people would live in peace but ‘we spoiled his dream.’
Tangail units of Jatiya Party, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Nationalist Front, Sramik Federation, Press Club, Bhashani Manch, Bhashani Foundation, Bhashani Smrity Sangsad, Bhashani College, Government MM Ali College, Govt Sadat College, Govt Kumudhini College,Daily Mozlumer Kantha, Daily Progotir Alo, Daily Kaler Srot, Tangail municipality, Tangail Bidi Sramik union, Tangail Club, Tangail Transport Ownerw and Workers Association, Tangail Auto-tempoo Sramik Union, Tangail district Muktijoddha command, Udhichi Tangail, Shaheen Pre-cadet School, Shilpakala Academy, Projanma-71, Sector Commanders Forum district unit, Ranjan Shilpa Samity, Sonali Otit Sangskritik Gosthi and many other organisations placed wreaths at Bhasani’s grave.
Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University distributed food among destitute people.
Bhashani foundation organised 5-day-long Bhashani Fair, discussions and cultural programmes at Bhashani university which was concluded on Tuesday.
Jatiya Ganatantrik Party, Bangladesh National Awami Party, Bangladesh NAP and National Committee for observing death anniversary of Maulana Bhashani and other political and social organisations laid wreaths at the temporary portrait of Bhashani at Photojournalist Association Auditorium in the capital.
