TRANSSHIPMENT FEE : Delhi to pay Tk 192 per tonne

Dhaka and Delhi on Tuesday agreed to fix Tk 192.22 as transshipment fee for a metric tonne of Indian goods to be passed through the Ashuganj river port to and from north-eastern part of India.
Both sides also singed a draft Memorandum of Understanding on passenger and cruise vessel movement at secretary-level talks in New Delhi, according to message received in Dhaka.
The delegations of Bangladesh and India were led by shipping ministry secretary secretaries Shafique Alam Mehdi and Rajive Kumar respectively.
During the meeting the Indian side agreed on the implementation of the transshipment fees with an option for reviewing the rates if considered necessary in future.
On issue of bank guarantee, Bangladesh has decided to do away with the practice of insistence on bank guarantee on each consignment of transit cargo.
It was decided to ensure adequate draft in upper reaches of Indo-Bangladesh Protocol route in Bangladesh and that Bangladesh would submit a proposal for dredging rivers in Bangladesh, including the ones under protocol route, to World Bank for Regional IDA under intimation to the Indian side to enable the Indian side to examine.
