PM seeks people’s help to capture criminals, militants

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Wednesday called upon the people to help the government and law enforcement agencies to capture those involved in criminal activities and militant acts.
‘Your support is needed in curbing terrorism and militancy and to supplement government’s anti-terrorism and anti-militancy steps,’ she said while replying to a supplementary question in parliament.
Hasina said the government has already strengthened the capacity of the police and planned to increase their number to ensure security of the people.
She underscored the need for creating awareness among people about militancy. ‘The way we have taken measures to protect people from the adverse impacts of climate change, the same way we have taken steps to protect their lives,’ she added.
Answering to a starred tabled question, Hasina informed the House that 52 promises out 618 she made a prime minister in last seven years since 2008 were implemented.
‘I made a total of 618 promises during my visit in different districts as prime minister since 2008. Of the promises, 52 have already implemented, 285 are being implemented and 281 are under process,’ she said.
Replying to another question, the prime minister reiterated that her government will take all necessary steps to ensure the overall development of the people of former enclaves.
She said that an amount of Tk 200 crore has been earmarked as a symbolic allocation in the current fiscal year’s budget for the rehabilitation of the former enclave dwellers as well as for ensuring their civic amenities.
