Political parties, campaigners hail SQC, Mojaheed execution

Different political parties and organisations on Sunday hailed the execution of condemned war crimes convicts Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.
In independent reactions to the execution, they said it is the beginning of the end of an ignominious chapter.
Ganajagaran Mancha, a youth platform seeking death sentence for all war criminals, expressed satisfaction over the execution saying the verdict had fulfilled the expectations of the nation by helping it rid itself of ‘another disgrace’.
Hailing the verdict, the platform spokesperson, Imran H Sarkar, said the nation had been shamed by their acts and with this execution, the country was now relieved of that inglorious past.
This (trial of war crimes) was a long-awaited demand of the nation and it had taken a step further towards emancipating the country from its 44- year old scar, he added.
Demanding immediate implementation of all war crimes verdicts within a short time Imran also opined there was no alternative to giving capital punishment to the war criminals as the country’s pro-liberation people were bearing the curse and stigma for the last 44 years.
While speaking at a rally at the Shahbagh intersection Sunday afternoon Imran also said Jamaat-Shibir, who collaborated with the Pakistani forces, should not only be banned but annihilated. We have to unmask these forces before the international community. We can achieve complete victory if we can do that task.
He also said the two criminals had admitted to all their crimes against humanity by seeking presidential clemency, so it is has been proven that their ideology was false.
Imran thanked the young generation and people from all walks for supporting the platform in demanding the highest penalty for war criminals.
It has once again been proven that the anti-liberation forces have no place on the soil of Bangladesh, he added.
Later, the leaders and activists of the Mancha brought out a jubilant procession with a big national flag which paraded different streets of Dhaka University area.
Communist Party of Bangladesh in a statement hailed the execution of the convicts and demanded a ban on the politics of Jamaat and its student organisation Islami Chattra Shibir to root out extremism from the country forever.
Demanding immediate execution of the all other war crime convicts, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, student front of Ganasanghati Andolon in a statement expressed their satisfaction over the verdict and said it was a reflection of people’s expectations.
In a statement Sammilita Sangskritik Jote also expressed satisfaction over the execution of condemned war crimes convicts Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.
Bangladesh Chhatra League, Bangladesh Awami Jubo league and Bangladesh Awami league Bogra unit also brought out jubilant processions hailing the execution of the two top war crime convicts, different press releases claimed.
