PM for reopening roads thru frontier with India
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said Bangladesh wants to reopen the frontier roads connecting India which remained closed since 1965 India-Pakistan war, aiming to further strengthen connectivity.
The prime minister said this when a delegation of International Centre for Gandhian Studies, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya of India met her at her official residence Ganabhaban.
Dean of the School of Business, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya Alaka Sharma led the delegation.
After the meeting, prime minister’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.
Stressing the importance of enhancing people-to-people contact, Sheikh Hasina said the Dhaka-Shilong-Gouhati bus services will help promote such contacts and thereby enhance trade and business activities between the two neighbouring countries.
Mentioning the launching of border haats, she said economic activities between Bangladesh and India have already enhanced significantly.
Talking about ratification of the Land Boundary Agreement, the prime minister said all members of the Indian parliament were seen for the first time to get united on a particular bill – the LBA.
