Each upazila to get training centre for migrant workers: PM

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said the government wants to develop the whole country and ensure the welfare of its people by using modern technologies.
The prime minister said this while inaugurating 3G network at Dahgram and Angarpata in Lalmonirhat district through a videoconferencing from her official residence Ganabhaban.
Sheikh Hasina said the government wants to ensure a descent and upgraded lifestyle for all. ‘And each and every child will have to be well-educated and the government is working to that end,’ she added.
The government is also taking all necessary steps to ensure the basic rights of people, the prime minister said adding that her government wants to keep the country’s standing high on the global stage. ‘This is our aim,’ she said.
Posts and telecommunications secretary Md Faizur Rahman Chowdhury and Grameenphone CEO Rajeev Sethi were, among others, present at Ganabhaban while state minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim and former state minister for primary and mass education Motahar Hossain at Dahgram.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has underscored the need for increasing the speed of internet across the country for further strengthening the existing pace of social development through the use technologies.
She hoped that the internet speed could be increased significantly with the introduction of country’s first satellite, ‘Bangbabandhu Satellite’, to the orbit by 2017.
Describing various internet-based development activities in the country, the prime minister mentioned rural people are now availing of specialised treatment through telemedicine service through web cameras installed in upazila health complexes.
Besides, she said, the local physicians can consult specialised physicians through mobile phone and extending improved treatment to the common people.
Referring to the setting up of 5,275 union digital centres across the country, she said people in rural areas are getting over 200 types of digital services, including sending money, filling out admission forms of schools, colleges and universities, and knowing the results of public examinations from this centres.
Hasina said one training centre will be set up in each upazila of the country under expatriate welfare ministry to provide vocational training to intending migrant workers.
The government has also decided to set up 100 economic zones across the country to generate huge employment opportunities and attract local and foreign investments.
Hasina mentioned various development initiatives of her government taken for Lalmonirhat district, including construction of two bridges over the river Teesta.
The prime minister directed the local public representatives to identify which item is produced most in their respective areas and take necessary steps for marketing of that.
